Adeline’s Mitzvah Project

When a child turns 13 in Jewish tradition there is a coming of age celebration and ritual. In the year coming up to their 13th year which marks them into adulthood, (and every year after) they are to do Mitzvah’s, good deeds, commandments that make the world a better place. Below marks Adeline’s project … you will see who she is supporting, how you can help her support the project and why.

What is a Mitzvah? “The literal meaning of the Hebrew word mitzvah is commandment, but the generally accepted sense is that of a good deed. The emphasis is on deeds—not on positive thoughts or wishes, but on conscious acts of empathy and kindness. To help you learn more about what it means to do a mitzvah, we've posted some book suggestions, activity ideas, discussion questions, and videos below. Adeline’s WHY and story:

“Ever since I was 4 I have always wanted to help the homeless when i lived in california there would be a ton of people who were living on the streets were i lived and it was devistating and then i moved here in charlotte NC I have kept my passion of helping them for example i told my dad that for my birthday i wanted to go get gatorade and oranges to go hand out to the homeless and when me and my family go somewhere we usually take the car and almost all the time we pass someone living on the streets and I say to my parents “Mom dad look do you have any food or drinks?” My parents reply is “I don’t have anything “ I say “what about cash” they say “we don’t have cash” And I was like why even ask nobody carries cash anymore haha. Anyways that is why i chose to do this and i started “thinking about what i was going to do 2 years ago but i already knew and 2 years later my mom asks what i was going to do and i turned around and said i already told you and she was like what i said FEEDING THE HOMELESS.”

In May 2019, our legacy organizations combined services to become a new organization with added resources, talent, and a unified voice that could move the needle on ending homelessness.

Non-profit : Block Love CLT

Mission of non-profit:

Our Vision is to improve the quality of life for those individuals that suffer from homelessness, domestic violence and single fathers; one block at a time in our communities. We shall partnership with other business and agencies for resources and make a difference in communities globally. What We Do

We ask for donations from all over the city of Charlotte and surrounding areas that we take out every Sunday morning at 8:30am to what we have officially dubbed as the block on the corner of North Tryon and Montford Point in Uptown Charlotte.  We provide clothing, food, tents, sleeping bags, toiletries, socks, shoes, and whatever else we get donated and we share with our neighbors who eventually become part of our family.  We also help connect our block family to resources and we encourage them to trust the organizations that are designed to help.

We have recently been able to carry supplies to other blocks including near Northlake, Brookshire, N. Tryon, and Sugar Creek.  We are hoping that more will join our team so we can expand  our efforts.

How you can help:

  1. Donated Goods (All in By June 30): I will be collecting for the month and Drop off the Lot at the end of the month. You drop it off at Sanctuary Bistro in a bag with my name on it. Shoes, especially sneakers and boots are like gold on the block and we can definitely use donated shoes for men and women that we see weekly.  Also blankets, tents, underwear, sleeping bags, towels, wash cloths, and everyday care items are welcome.
