Channukah - A time for miracles

Photo Credit: jewcelt via Compfight ccThe history Chanukkah is a time of religious persecution for Jews.  It was a time when Jewish people were facing the destruction of their culture, lives and beliefs.  It is a time when hope was found within darkness.

I believe that as a community we are trying to erase and destroy many American cultures bringing us to darkness once again.  As I see it, it seems as though it is a common goal to create a Aryan America.  In my mind, that means we need to step up and help save cultures around the world.  We need to begin to see daily miraclers.
Rabbi Dean from Temple Beth Hillel in Richmond introduced me to this Chanukkah song
WE CAME TO DRIVE AWAY THE DARKNESS
We came to drive away the darknessin our hands is light and fire.Everyone's a small light, and all of us are a firm light.Fight darkness, further blackness!Fight because of the light!Tzil-tzil-tzil in the bells, who are we? - spinning tops.We have one leg,if we fall - we still won't fear.Fight darkness, further blackness!Fight because of the light! We're big mischievous kids, merry and praise-giving -but we'll know very nicelyto retell, to sing, to dance.Fight darkness, further blackness!Fight because of the light!
So I ask you today to fight the darkness by being the light.  You are the miracle.  We are surrounded by so many miracles.
Eight miracles to represent the miracle of Chanukah
1. The woman that I saw walking on the side walk picking up every piece of trash that she saw.
2. The people that I hear and see speaking up for those that are in need and for those that are suffering injustices.
3. For the kids that I see everyday who love all people and haven't been spoiled with the racists ideas - they see kind and mean and judge a person off of those ideas.
4. The miracle of veganism gaining momentum in this country that shows people are willing and ready to make changes.
5. The miracle that my children have fallen asleep along with my husband so that I can write this blog.
6.  The miracle of friendships through all odds and being their for each other.
7.  The miracle of family.
8.  The miracle of you.  We are all in this together.  As a team and a community we can take on injustices.  We are making progress and I thank you for being a compassionate being.
Please spread the light of the menorah - which is a beauty to behold and more sacred than all. It is a light from with in and is shining from your heart.
From my family to yours in this Chanukkah season.
