How to be an Awesome Chicken Adopter

Animal Place’s one-of-a-kind rescue and adoption program has saved the lives of more than 16,500 hens from egg farms and other animals since 2010. The animals go on to become ambassadors for those we cannot rescue. Find out what it takes to be an awesome chicken adopter! There are currently 650 hens, five roosters, and two goats looking for homes now!Accept that adopted chickens want to be with you! Debbie Wagner, adopter of several sassy red hens is particularly fond of Penny who likes to sneak into the house. “Sometimes she announces herself right away,” says Wagner. “Other times she is quiet until she finds the room we are in, where she makes herself comfortable on a pillow or chair!”Be prepared to be surprised! Want to be an awesome adopter? Learn to be pleasantly surprised. Says Meghan Wood, “I was blown away at the friendliness of these hens. Out of all my hens, the ones I adopted have been the most friendly! THey love when you pet them and come running to me when I call!”Willingness to change. Change can be hard but our awesome adopters prove that it can happen...with a little help from feathered friends. After adopting hens, Isabelle and Peter Cnudde were inspired to adopt a (mostly) vegan lifestyle. The exception? They do eat a few of the eggs her hens lay...but when they are not laying, no eggs. “Now that we rescue hens instead of buying chicks,” says Cnudde. “Eating their eggs does not clash with our values.”Interested in being an awesome chicken adopter?
