What are you having for Thanksgiving?

We haven't made definite plans for our Thanksgiving weekend, yet. Although this will be the sixth year that I haven't and won't be serving turkey. So that will be six turkeys still alive, plus their families and offspring for the last six years, should total over 30 turkeys saved. Wow and that is from not serving one on each of the last six Turkey Day's.

How about when we choose to call Thanksgiving "Turkey Day" we do so to honor the turkey for it's beauty rather than it's flesh. If your family is anything like mine, they are very traditional, as far as food goes. Turkey, sweet potatoes, yams, corn, green beans, cranberry sauce, stuffing, pumpkin pie, apple pie, cherry jubilee, and so on. As you can see there is more than enough food, even without the turkey. We usually have to take a break and unbutton the top of our pants, and let ourselves digest, as we watch football. At the end of the day there is still enough left-overs for the week, usually turkey.

So this year my wife and I are going to adopt a turkey from Farm Sanctuary. For $25, you can too. Please join me this year. I know that turkey is ingrained into our yearly habits, but let us take one year off. "What is Thanksgiving without turkey?" you or someone you know will surely say. But what is Thanksgiving really about..... Thanksgiving is a harvest festival and it is a time to give thanks to the harvest and express gratitude in general.

Enjoy.
