Yi Zhong, Garde Manger

Yi Zhong came into this world in Xi'an, a city in central China with a long and rich history. Followed by the quiet town of Rockville in Maryland, the bustling sprawl of Los Angeles, and finally here in Berkeley, he's traveled far from his roots, but has grown hand in hand with his native culture. Food and family were always central to the simplest pleasures in life and he tries to nourish the best of times for the road ahead.

The world as his oyster and interests aplenty,Yi Zhong spends a considerable amount of his waking hours ravenously ingesting art and culture however and where ever. Most often he will be glued to a movie, album, book, or artwork. In spurts of inspiration, he often tries his hand at creating and making. This season features ink drawings, watercolor paintings, alternative R&B, cinematic dramas, and historical novels.
Food and family, first and foremost. The down to earth flavors of a family business married with the honest appreciation for quality ingredients come full circle with the people and culture that make up Sanctuary Bistro. Every single workday is an exciting challenge that promises deep satisfaction and tireless inspiration. The melodic pace, meditative process, and munch-worthy produce sincerely and easily make Sanctuary Bistro one of the best jobs he said he has ever had the pleasure of having.
Life is simply beautiful. It's honestly difficult for him to not enjoy each and every day. Yi Zhong once literally had to sit down in a state of euphoria from being so immersed in studying life around him, and he hopes he can spread the joy forward. All his creative flow and bodies of work circulate around the simple pleasures of life, done well.
