Summer's Here! Kinda......
The Summer Solstice has come.... the longest day of the year. With it comes the fruits of the summer; juicy, plump and ripe fruits from peaches to apricots and soon tomatoes and melons. What a great time of year, with everything being so bountiful and beautiful. The sun beating down, the flowers blooming and gardens growing sure makes it feel like summer.
Although, those of us living in the Bay area know that we have some hot days and then we'll have some cool days, sometimes downright cold days. We also know that by marching inland a few miles we can find the warmth of the sun once again, creating an optimal environment for summer's harvest. What is being harvested this week?
Look for these items:
- corn
- lettuces
- early tomatoes
- green beans
- summer squash
- strawberries
- apricots
- peaches
By checking the Farmer's Market you can be sure to be up-to-date on the local produce in your area. Mother Earth doesn't always cooperate with the farmer's. Lack of rain, sunshine or infestation of insects can effect a farm or entire region, totally wiping out a entire crops.
Let us all get out to the Farmer's Market this week and pick up some of today's freshest, local produce.
Enjoy.
