Earthlings: Are Animals Sacrificing Themselves For Human Consumption?
Earthlings is a powerful movie with an equally powerful theme: It talks about the pain caused in other beings so that we can eat.
All living beings regardless of species are Earthlings.
All Earthings should be treated equally. The term Earthling does not embody racism, speciesism, or classism. It represents all beings on equal terms.
This movie shows the pain that our fellow earthlings have to experience and how power is abused and used against other earthlings.
Do you know where your food comes from?
The meat industry doesn’t want you to know what is happening behind closed doors. We have visions of the meat we eat living a fulfilling life on a field with flowers. But that is not the conditions experienced by most.
Farmers brand their animals. The idea of branding has become so normal that I don’t believe most of us has thought about what that is or that there might be pain. I lived in blissful ignorance for so long. Have you ever burnt yourself really badly getting something out of the stove? Imagine something metal even hotter being held against your skin for 30 seconds. What is the fear and the pain that is induced by a forced burning? This is only one of the many experiences of the animal.
The pain is evident.
Well what could be wrong with milk or dairy? For a long time I thought that did not harm the animals. First of all, milk cows are given hormones and antibiotics to keep up their milk supply - not something i want to be ingesting. But cows are also chained with very small chains and can’t move for hours while being milked. As crazy as it is to nurse from another species it is crazier to imagine making a mama stand for hours on end nursing. Cows that can generally live for 20 years die after 4 from exhaustion.
A bolt to the head seems as though the animal would not experience the pain of the rest of the assembly line... but they are often still alive as they experience being hung by a hoof, or bled.
That is just the life of a cow in a factory farm... there are pigs, chickens and other earthlings slaughtered for our consumption. Is it worth it?
Are animals sacrificing themselves for our consumption? Is it fair?
The consumption of chickens in one day match the consumption of chickens in one year in the 1930s. The argument is often “But are you getting enough protein?” We as a nation are getting way too much protein.
SInce when did animals become things?
Are they simply a commodity? Would you treat your dog or cat as though he or she was an it, as a commodity?
The oceans are being polluted and the fish are being depleted.
Do other earthlings deserve to die for our fashion?
The most shocking is the circus.
Ignorance is not bliss. It is pain and sorrow for a fellow Earthling. Do your part and become informed. Why aren’t slaughter houses built with glass walls so that they can be viewed by the public. Every other type of business needs to have an open door policy for the general public.

“EARTHLINGS is a feature length documentary about humanity's absolute dependence on animals (for pets, food, clothing, entertainment, and scientific research) but also illustrates our complete disrespect for these so-called "non-human providers." The film is narrated by Academy Award nominee Joaquin Phoenix (GLADIATOR) and features music by the critically acclaimed platinum artist Moby. With an in-depth study into pet stores, puppy mills and animals shelters, as well as factory farms, the leather and fur trades, sports and entertainment industries, and finally the medical and scientific profession, EARTHLINGS uses hidden cameras and never before seen footage to chronicle the day-to-day practices of some of the largest industries in the world, all of which rely entirely on animals for profit. Powerful, informative and thought-provoking, EARTHLINGS is by far the most comprehensive documentary ever produced on the correlation between nature, animals, and human economic interests. There are many worthy animal rights films available, but this one transcends the setting. EARTHLINGS cries to be seen. Highly recommended! Source: veg-tv.info/Earthlings”
